A Love Poem to Myself

I'm sorry that I wasn't there for you before.

I'm sorry for putting my needs before yours.

I'm sorry for breaking your heart three times more.

I'm sorry that I couldn't open up the door.

This time, I'll learn to love you first.

I promise that we're past the worst.

I know that you're afraid to burst.

In time, you'll know that you aren't cursed.

Because I will teach you how to love yourself by loving you.

I know I've yet to try, but I've learned something new.

Only I can learn how to love myself by loving you.

And that's exactly what I'll do.

First, I'll start with your heart.

Yes, I pulled it apart,

But I'll piece it back together.

I'll undo all of your sins.

I'll repair your broken wings.

I'll put you back together.

I'm just what you needed;

I'm your key back to Eden.

We'll go back home together.

I know I'll be enough

To fix what I've undone

I'll put us back together.

I'll keep us

From falling

Apart again,

By singing

To you all

The love songs, then

I'll do what

I should've

Done way back when:

I'll hold your

Cold hands and

Tuck you in bed.

I won't throw

You out of

The warm blankets.

I'll hold you

Close until

You've calmed your head.

I'll tell you

What you hate

To hear, instead.

I know you

Won't listen,

But I will bet

That you know

You need it;

You want it, yes?

And soon you

Will learn how

To love yourself.
